Kwik Cricket Girls Borough Finals 2016

Match report by Russell Watkinson

St Mary’s girls team competed in the 2016 Borough Kwik Cricket finals on Tue 17th June.

There were 10 girl’s teams competing to become borough champions. As defending champions of the last 6 years, the pressure was certainly on our team.

Our first match was against Malden Manor. We won the match 287 runs to their 204, great start girls .The second match was against Grand Avenue. It was important for us to start the game on the front foot. We sure did, wining the match 277 runs to 219. Go girls!. We were really focused for our 3rd game as it was against local rivals, Lovelace.  St Mary’s opted to field first. We bowled outstandingly well, winning the match 268 to 210 runs. Last game of the group, Fernhill…..we won the game, St Marys are in the final against King Athleston!!

We won the toss and put them into bat, advantage St Mary’s. The girls produced their finest cricket with outstanding batting and bowling. All the girls fielded exceptionally well and became 2016 Borough Champions for the 7th year in a row.

We now go onto the County finals on 22nd June at Epsom College. Well done to the team for their commitment with continued practice at lunch times with Russ and Callum. They will strive to get even better.

Russ said how very proud he is of the team and what an amazing achievement it is for all of us at St Mary’s. Go Saints.!!
