Welcome to our School

welcome

For more than a century, St Mary's School has served generations of families in Chessington. The school today retains its close connection with the local church and community, while also welcoming children from further afield.

With seven classes and a pre-school Nursery, the school is small enough to retain a family atmosphere, but large enough to offer full challenge and opportunity to all children. The staff work hard, in close partnership with parents, to provide Primary education of high quality for every child.

St Mary's School provides Primary education for the whole age-range from 3 to 11 years, with one class for each school year.

The school was founded by the Church of England, and has been serving the parish

The Foundation Stage offers part-time Nursery education from the age of 3, followed by the Reception Class when children approach the age of 5. The two teachers and their assistants plan together towards the national Early Learning Goals.

From Year 1 (age 6), the children follow the National Curriculum. Teachers work hard to provide a broad and interesting curriculum for the children, giving proper priority to the basic skills of Literacy and Numeracy. Visits and visitors enrich their learning, including residential visits for the older children. After-school clubs offer a variety of sporting, musical and other activities.

The class teachers are assisted by additional teaching and support staff, and by volunteers from parents and the community. This enables the school to provide effectively for many different children, including the able and those with additional needs of various sorts. Read more...

School meals - new ordering procedures
Menus will be sent out today for lunches starting after half term. Orders for the first week after half term need to be in by the end of day on Monday 28th May. Cygnet are trying to encourage more people to use their online ordering system, so we are not sending out paper order forms with every menu. Instead you will receive a letter which will hopefully answer any questions you have about the online ordering process. If you still wish to fill in a paper order then these forms will be available from the school office. You can access the online ordering system by clicking on the “Wisepay” logo on the front page of our website.

Walking home from School

We appreciate that some children in year 6 are allowed to walk home from school on their own, as long as they have permission from their parents. We would advise that year 5 children and below are collected from school at the end of the day. If you feel that your year 5 child is ready to walk home on their own then the school will need to have permission from you in writing first, please.
