Kwik Cricket Borough Finals 2016

Match report by Callum Fosket

St Mary’s years 5 and 6 boys took part in the borough competition at Ruxley Lane on 17th June.
We were put in a very strong group that included, St Agatha’s, King Athelstan, St Andrew’s and St Marks. In our first game against King Athelstan we got off to a great start. We took 3 wickets in the first 2 overs thanks to our opening bowlers, but they came back strong and finished on 246 runs. In reply St Mary’s were limited to 232 runs due to good bowling and great fielding, which meant we lost our first game.
In our second game we came up against another very strong team. We batted first and got 235 runs, unfortunately they scored 275 runs. In our third came we played against St Agatha’s. In true St Mary’s spirit we bounced back after 2 loses with a great victory. We bowled first, taking 10 wickets. This is a great achievement because there are only 8 overs. St Mary’s scored 300 runs giving us a victory of over 70 runs.
Russ and Callum believe this team has great potential. With their willingness to work hard, and enthusiasm leading up to the competition, we feel this team could go all the way next year. Go Saints.
Well done: John F, Ashton, Edward, Max, Rian, Ryan, Alex – y5 & Adam y6
